Co-operatives Stakeholders Workshop

Posted on 11 September 2008
Ronald Eglin attended a workshop hosted by the Department of Economic Development and Environmental Affairs (DEDEA) in East London yesterday. The co-operatives strategy, which was developed in consultation with stakeholders in the sector, was well received by all present. The workshop further highlighted the importance of developing a demand rather than a supply driven co-operative sector, where people set up co-ops because they understand the advantages of co-operation and not because they want to ‘chase after’ government tenders. The DEDEA hopes to approve the co-operatives strategy by the end of 2008.
