Ronald Eglin attended a workshop organised by the Provincial Department of Economic Affairs on the development of a co-operative strategy for the Eastern Cape on 22 May. Representatives from government, local municipalities, parastatal organisations, educational institutions and NGOs attended the workshop. The strategy is based on a dedicated co-operative development fund to establish new and grow existing co-operatives; the establishment of institutional capacity to support co-operatives; learning, knowledge development and management, dissemination and developmental dialogue; and building an independent co-operative movement. A provincial co-operative advisory forum to oversee the implementation of the strategy is also planned.
