Land Access Strategy Workshop
Posted on 19 May 2008
The difficulty in accessing affordable and well located land is a significant stumbling block to housing and urban development. Innovative solutions are being developed by government and others to make land available for residential development, including the proposed establishment of a Housing Development Agency to assist municipalities access land; inclusionary housing that encourages the private sector to contribute towards low cost housing solutions; and the Community Driven Housing Initiative programme where government plans to support communities to arrange the development of housing for themselves. Afesis-corplan is organising a one-day workshop for a small group of invited government and NGO participants to share experiences and information on the existing land access situation and to identify elements of a possible land access support strategy. The workshop will take place at Zonk’ izizwe Conference facility in East London on 21 May 2008. Contact Ronald Eglin for any enquires.
