Posted on 14 June 2007
Peter Kimemia attended a Good Governance Learning Network (GGLN ) workshop in Cape Town on 11 June to discuss the proposed State of Local Government Review - a civil society perspective. The members deliberated on the various clusters of indicators that they would like covered in the initial review. The key areas are 1) democracy, responsiveness and accountability 2) planning and budgeting especially for sustainable human settlements 3) service delivery, institutional capacity and poverty alleviation. A follow-up meeting will be held in September to review the progress made. In the meantime, Afesis-corplan and other GGLN members will continue assisting the consultant, Prof. Stephen Rule, by providing the necessary information which will form the basis of the review.
