Afesis-corplan is guided by the understanding that development is a political process, and we work to place the needs of the poor and marginalised on the development agenda.
- Technical support on land issues and physical development projects
- Capacity building and training in institutional development, local governance and various technical fields
- Research relating to settlement development and local government
- Information dissemination on key development issues
At Afesis-corplan we strive to:
- Improve the capacity of targeted local authorities to implement developmental, participatory local governance as noted in an audit of local government capacity
- Strengthen the partnership between targeted local authorities and relevant civil society structures as demonstrated by an increase in the viability and effectiveness of services and projects initiated
- Promote and support housing co-operatives as an institutional form that gives voice to the homeless in their efforts to house themselves
- Develop and test environmentally sustainable models that improve the capacity of the urban and rural poor to access land and basic services within an integrated framework
