Sustainable Development Plan for the KSD Functional Urban Areas

The community of the King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality has been working on a ground breaking process of developing a Sustainable Development Plan for the KSD Functional Urban Areas, Mthatha and Mqanduli. The process has involved robust public participation in the form of community meetings as well as individual and joint stakeholder forums, meetings and workshops. The following stages have been completed: a situational analysis, setting a vision, setting goals and priorities and technical inputs resulting in the draft development framework. The plan was approved and adopted by council on 31 March 2009 and a draft Development Charter which outlines the vision, commitments and roles of the various  stakeholders is now available. This charter will be signed by all stakeholders in a signing ceremony that will be widely advertised. It will also make provisions for the establishment of the Development Forum which will have an oversight function regarding the implementation of the plan.
