About this Site
The Afesis-corplan website was first operational in the last quarter of 2005. The entire site was then rebuilt in its current editable database format in August 2006.
The website is a collaborative effort between Afesis-corplan and our webmasters GuruInteractive, with an ongoing process of additions, changes and improvements suggested by both sides. This has led to the development of a close working relationship and continuous updates to the site, from the quarterly seminar programmes and presentations to newsletter articles, through to news updates on an almost daily basis.
Since being redeveloped, the website has grown rapidly to include a high volume of content, and new material is added on a regular basis. Our emphasis is the delivery of information over flashy graphics; clear and simple design with easy access to documents rather than a site designed purely to look good.
Our home page has been designed to show content that updates or changes regularly – seminars, newsletters, latest news and featured publication. The aim is to reduce navigation for regular viewers. Most popular content and most recent additions are also shown prominently to assist with ease of access to key information. The whole site is searchable by keyword or phrase.
The website has been built specifically to deliver as much information as possible with access being as easy as possible. As our newsletter has moved to free distribution, we are now adding articles directly to the site to allow the greatest readership possible, and encouraging access to materials in sectors that previously may not have subscribed to a paid-for newsletter.
In support of our objective to popularise and publicise our project lessons and principles to a broad range of stakeholders, reports and resource materials are available to download in full, and articles can be viewed online in their entirety, with the facility to save, email or print from the front-end of the site.
While best viewed in 1024 x 768 resolution, the site will flex to fit 800 x 600, and also higher resolutions. This is to cater for those using older monitors without the need for sideways scrolling.
For those with impaired vision, it is possible to resize the screen text to make it larger and easier to read. We have also introduced the facility to call up a ‘text only’ version of the site for those using speaking browsers or alternative display units.
Site traffic is constantly monitored to see where improvements can be made, both to site structure, content and search engine metadata.

The Afesis-corplan website was recognised for excellence in online non-profit communications at the South African NGO Website Awards 2007. These awards aim to raise awareness amongst NGOs about the benefits of having a web presence, to stimulate interest in the application of web solutions, and to showcase best practices in website creation and maintenance. The three winning websites were announced on 17 July at the gala dinner of SANGONeT's third annual ICTs for Civil Society Conference.
